It also acts as an appetite suppressant and stimulates digestion by triggering the production of gastric juices.

Because of its caffeine content, kola nut should be avoided by pregnant or nursing women and those suffering from insomnia or anxiety disorders. People with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and any type of heart problems should avoid cola nut. It stimulates the production of gastric juices, those suffering from ulcers should avoid taking it as it may aggravate these conditions. It is also a common allergen in order to be aware of any reaction with it. Side effects include insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, upset stomach and tremors. Diarrhea, nausea and cramping may indicate an overdose.
Appearance
Kola trees grow to about 40 feet. Flowers are yellow or white with patches ranging from red to purple. The leaves are from six to eight inches long and wears a star-shaped fruit.
